About the hotel
Code lock without reception in the Gröndal district
ApartDirect Gröndal is an apartment hotel with 24 apartments in a building from 2018, located at Gröndalsvägen 100 in the Gröndal district within the Liljeholmen–Hägersten area in south Stockholm. The hotel operates without a staffed reception: all apartments have code locks, and check-in information is communicated digitally before arrival. Check-in is available from 15:00 and check-out must be completed by 11:00. All apartments are non-smoking and offer free WiFi, a washing machine and a fully equipped kitchen. Neither extra beds nor cots are available.
The absence of a reception means there is no staff on site to receive luggage, answer questions in real time or handle unexpected situations face to face. ApartDirect offers telephone and digital customer support around the clock, which partially compensates for this. Guests who prefer traditional hotel service or who are travelling with a lot of luggage should consider that there is no porter or concierge. The building has no lift and is therefore not recommended for guests with mobility impairments or those who cannot use stairs – this is explicitly stated in ApartDirect's own FAQ.
Public transport connections are well served: the nearest stop is approximately 600 metres away, the tram takes about five minutes to Liljeholmen and from there you can reach Stockholm Central Station in around ten minutes by underground. The concept is best suited to independent travellers who are comfortable with digital communication and do not need physical assistance upon arrival or during their stay.
Apartment types with different bed configurations
ApartDirect Gröndal's official website lists two clearly described apartment types. Studio single is the smallest variant at approximately 25 square metres and is furnished with a single bed. It is suitable for one person and is not intended for couples or groups needing more sleeping spaces.
Studio with sofa bed is the most spacious variant at 32 square metres. It has a double bed and a sofa bed and can accommodate up to four guests. It is the only category that is practical for families or groups of three to four people. The sofa bed is a functional extra bed rather than a separate bedroom – the apartment is an open studio room without a separate bedroom area, which means all guests share the same space during their stay.
Both apartment types share the same basic facilities: flat-screen TV, free WiFi, combined washing machine and tumble dryer, fully equipped kitchen and private bathroom with shower and hairdryer. There are no extra beds or cots available beyond what each apartment type includes from the outset. Guests with children should check whether the sofa bed is suitable for the number and age of children directly with the hotel before booking. It is also worth noting that the building has no lift, which ApartDirect's official FAQ explicitly states, and that the hotel is therefore not recommended for guests with mobility impairments. The choice of apartment type therefore determines not only the comfort level but above all how many people can practically stay in the apartment and what needs can be met during the stay.
Fully equipped kitchen and washing machine – a self-catering hotel without a restaurant
The central feature of ApartDirect Gröndal's concept is that each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen with hob, oven, microwave and refrigerator. There is also a combined washing machine and tumble dryer in each apartment. This means guests can cook meals, wash clothes and practically live as they would at home throughout their stay – an arrangement that is economically advantageous for longer stays compared to hotels where you pay for each meal separately. The bathroom in each apartment includes a shower, hairdryer and towels, and bed linen and bedding are included. WiFi is free and available throughout the apartment. There are no shared facilities such as a gym, pool or spa, and the hotel has no lift, which means it is not recommended for guests with mobility impairments.
The hotel has no restaurant, bar or breakfast service and offers no room service. The nearest shops and restaurants are in the surrounding area, and Liljeholmen with a wider range of grocery shops and restaurants is reached by tram in five minutes. Planning shopping is therefore part of the stay, which suits travellers who actively choose to avoid the hotel restaurant but may be experienced as a limitation for those who prefer to have food available without planning.
The concept is designed for travellers – whether travelling on business or privately – who prioritise independence, kitchen access and the ability to wash clothes over traditional hotel services. Check-in is via code lock without a staffed reception, and round-the-clock support is available. The hotel is non-smoking and contains a total of 24 apartments divided into apartment types suited to different group sizes.
The Tvärbanan at Gröndal and the interchange point Liljeholmen
ApartDirect Gröndal is approximately 600 metres, or a five-minute walk, from Gröndal tram stop on the Tvärbanan. From there it takes five minutes by tram to Liljeholmen, which is a central interchange with underground on the red line. From Liljeholmen to Stockholm Central Station, the underground takes approximately ten minutes. Public transport connections are therefore functional and relatively quick, but they require the guest to be comfortable changing between tram and underground to reach the city centre.
The location in Gröndal means that the hotel is not in the city centre and that most attractions in central Stockholm require public transport. The district is a residential area with a quiet character, and the immediate range of restaurants and shops is limited compared to more central districts. Liljeholmen shopping centre, which is quickly reached by tram, offers a wider range of grocery shops and restaurants. It is worth noting that the hotel has no lift and is therefore not recommended for guests with mobility impairments, which ApartDirect's official FAQ explicitly states.
For guests with a car, street parking is available near the hotel. The hotel has no car park of its own. The location suits travellers who do not need to stay in the city centre, who travel by public transport and who value a quieter residential area over a central city location. Travellers with a packed tourist schedule requiring quick access to Stockholm's city centre should allow for public transport journeys to add time to each excursion. Overall, the area offers a quiet accommodation option with reasonable commuting options to the city centre.
