About the hotel
A bank palace from 1910 converted into a boutique hotel by Berzelii Park
Bank Hotel is located at Arsenalsgatan 6 in central Stockholm, in a building erected in 1910 that housed banks for a long time. When the property was converted into a hotel, great care was taken to preserve the original architecture, and the result is an interior where classical features meet contemporary design language. The hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World network and has been awarded a Michelin Key. The building contains 111 rooms and suites spread across seven floors.
The careful preservation of the building means that guests encounter authentic details – ornaments, proportions and material choices that reflect turn-of-the-century banking architecture – rather than a reconstructed façade. Owl motifs recur in the building's architecture, and the hotel's rooftop bar Le Hibou, French for owl, is a deliberate echo of this heritage. The hotel also offers the restaurant Bonnie's with 94 seats as well as Sophie's bar, and a well-equipped gym open 24 hours is available to guests.
The location is central: Berzelii Park and Kungsträdgården are within a short walk, and Strandvägen is also reachable on foot. Norrmalmstorg is directly adjacent and Östermalm with its shops and restaurants begins just around the corner. Berns Salonger is a neighbour on the same block and the Royal Opera House is reached in a few minutes' walk. Nybroviken and the boat lines serving the archipelago and Djurgården are also nearby, making the hotel practical for those who want to combine a city visit with excursions on the water. For arrival, the hotel also offers private transfer.
Bonnie's in the old bank hall and other dining and drinking facilities
Restaurant Bonnie's is housed in the original bank hall and is the hotel's most striking architectural signature. The space is covered by a glass roof with six metres of ceiling height and accommodates 94 seats. Breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner are served here, and the restaurant is open to visitors who are not staying at the hotel.
Beside Bonnie's is the bar Papillon, whose interior is inspired by the bank director's office with mahogany panelling and fitted carpet. Papillon serves lunch, dinner and drinks daily from early morning to late evening. At the top of the building is the cocktail bar and terrace Le Hibou with views over Nybroviken and Djurgården. The bar Sophie's also opens at weekends. The hotel also has a wine room called The Wine Cellar.
For meetings and private events there are the spaces La Voûte, BooBook, La Cour and Sophie's, which means that several of the hotel's dining and drinking venues also function as event spaces. Bonnie's is open to the public and thus caters not only to overnight guests, something that reflects the hotel's ambition to be a natural meeting place for Stockholmers in general. The combined range of restaurants and bars, from the historic bank hall on the ground floor to the cocktail bar and terrace Le Hibou at the top of the building, gives the hotel a clear vertical spread of food and drink offerings distributed across different atmospheres and occasions.
Room categories from windowless vault room to suite with terrace
The hotel offers a broad range of room categories with clear differences in size and location. Elegant Essential is the smallest category with a queen-size bed and an area of approximately 15 square metres. Elegant Classic is somewhat more spacious at 23 square metres. Elegant Exceptional and Elegant Exceptional with Bath measure 26 square metres each. Graceful Deluxe Signature is more spacious with an area of 30–35 square metres and an additional seating area with side table.
One of the more unusual options is Vault without Window – a room of 20–23 square metres housed in what was previously the bank's vault space. The room has no windows and suits those who prioritise historical character and darkness over natural light. Stockholm Town Suite measures 38 square metres and offers a more spacious accommodation option in the heart of the city. Bank Heritage Suite is 63 square metres with a focus on relaxation and a luxurious bathroom. Bank Director Suite shares the same area of 63 square metres and is also characterised by a luxurious bathroom. At the top of the scale is Penthouse Executive Terrace Suite with its own terrace as well as Bank Rooftop Terrace Suite, which also offers outdoor space with views over Stockholm.
The hotel has a total of eleven room categories distributed across floors 2–7. All rooms are furnished with carefully selected materials in an elegant and timeless design language. Separate single beds are not offered – all categories have a double bed in some form, which makes the hotel primarily suitable for couples and travellers who prefer generous sleeping space.
Gym, meeting spaces and practical information about the hotel's facilities
Bank Hotel has a well-equipped gym that is open 24 hours for the hotel's guests. The gym is located in the hotel and includes exercise machines, free weights, treadmills and a yoga section. For those planning business events or private dinners, the hotel offers several dedicated spaces: La Voûte in the former bank vault, BooBook, La Cour and Sophie's. The spaces are adapted for smaller groups and private gatherings rather than large-scale conferences.
The hotel offers parking in a private and guarded garage with access daily. WiFi is complimentary in common areas and in rooms. The hotel has a lift and reception open 24 hours for guest convenience. Private transfer can be arranged via the hotel, which is confirmed on bankhotel.se/how-to-get-here. Laundry and dry cleaning services are available to guests. These practical facilities make the hotel suitable for both business travellers and leisure travellers seeking comfortable and well-equipped accommodation in central Stockholm.
The address Arsenalsgatan 6 places the hotel on Norrmalm, near the border with Östermalm. Proximity to several public transport lines means that guests without a car have good mobility in the city. The hotel is located in a seven-storey building, with rooms distributed on floors 2 to 7. The building thus contains six hotel floors, which gives the hotel an intimate and well-defined character compared to larger hotel complexes.
