About the hotel

Hans Asplund's 1969 architecture on Kungsholmen – operating within Strawberry

Clarion Hotel Amaranten was built in 1969 and was designed by architect Hans Asplund in collaboration with Tengbom. The building bears clear characteristics from its time of construction, and this aesthetic has been deliberately preserved and reinforced in the latest renovation in 2014. For a renovation to choose to reinforce rather than obscure the original architecture is a deliberate stance that gives the hotel a cohesive design language and makes it recognisable among Stockholm's hotels.

The hotel has been part of the Strawberry chain under the Clarion Hotels brand since 2013, having previously been operated by First Hotels. The hotel is located at Kungsholmsgatan 31 on Kungsholmen, a district surrounded by water and with a range of restaurants and cafés along the streets. Rådhuset underground station is right next to the hotel and provides direct connections to attractions such as Moderna Museet, Kungsträdgården and Gamla stan. Stockholm City Hall, one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, is within walking distance from the entrance.

The hotel is Swan-labelled, which means that its operations meet the requirements of the Nordic Ecolabel regarding, among other things, energy consumption and chemical handling. The certificate applies to the hotel's ongoing operations and requires regular recertification, which means that the hotel must continuously maintain the requirements rather than rest on a one-time approval. The licence number is 3055 0769 and can be verified with the Swan. The Swan label covers the hotel, the conference facility and the restaurant The Social Amaranten as separate certified products under the same licence. For those who value environmentally certified accommodation, this is a concrete and verifiable fact to take into account when choosing a hotel in Stockholm.

461 rooms across seven floors – from compact 11 m² to family rooms

The hotel has 461 rooms and 762 beds distributed across seven floors. The smallest room category, Compact double room, measures 11 square metres and accommodates a double bed of 140 centimetres. It is an option for those who prioritise location and price over space, but those who need room to work or unpack properly should choose another category. Standard rooms are available in sizes of 18–20 square metres with either a double bed of 180 centimetres or two single beds of 90 centimetres. Superior rooms measure 20–22 square metres and have a double bed of 180 centimetres. The range also includes family rooms, which makes the hotel relevant for travellers with children.

All rooms have climate control and daily housekeeping, and the entire hotel is non-smoking. Room service is available 24 hours a day and is a paid service that should not be confused with included meals. The hotel has a lift, which facilitates movement between the seven floors. Pets are welcome upon request, and accessibility adjustments are handled individually, so those with specific needs should contact the hotel directly before booking.

Among practical facilities are luggage storage and express check-out, which is convenient for guests with early arrivals or late departures. Parking is available on site for a fee. Wi-Fi is complimentary throughout the facility. The hotel also offers a lobby lounge as a quieter alternative to the restaurant environment, as well as a check-in service station and laundry service for guests with busy schedules. The fact that 762 beds fit into 461 rooms reflects that a large proportion of the rooms are double rooms or accommodate more than one bed.

The Social Bar & Bistro – the hotel's restaurant with vegetarian and vegan options

The hotel's restaurant is called The Social Bar & Bistro, sometimes referred to as The Social Amaranten, and is located in the hotel. The restaurant functions as a dining venue for both hotel guests and external visitors. The kitchen serves classic bistro dishes with modern touches, and the menu includes vegetarian and vegan options. The bar is an active part of the restaurant environment and is used during different parts of the day, which contributes to a varied guest mix and a lively atmosphere in the venue.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant but is not automatically included in the room rate – it depends on which booking option is chosen. Those planning to eat breakfast at the hotel should check whether it is included in the chosen rate or if it is an additional charge, as this varies depending on the booking channel and offer. Kungsholmen as a district also offers a wide range of external restaurants and cafés along the streets around the hotel, which gives guests real choices outside the hotel's own premises.

The hotel has a gym that is available to resident guests and which is highlighted on the official facilities page as a central part of the offering. Those seeking spa treatments or a swimming pool should investigate this separately, as such facilities are not listed on the hotel's official facilities list. The hotel's lobby lounge offers a complement to the restaurant for guests who prefer a quieter space for meetings or relaxation without having to leave the facility. The restaurant is also Swan-labelled as a separate certified product under the hotel's licence 3055 0769.

Conference facility with 1960s-inspired rooms and maximum capacity for 400 participants

Clarion Hotel Amaranten has ten conference rooms, named after music icons from the 1960s – a feature that connects to the hotel's architectural spirit of the era and gives the facility a cohesive identity. The maximum capacity of the conference facility is 400 participants, which makes the hotel suitable for everything from board meetings and seminars to larger conferences and exhibitions. The fact that the spaces can be adapted to different layouts means that the same area can be used for different meeting formats, from theatre-style seating for lectures to table seating for dinners. The conference facility is also Swan-labelled as a separate certified product under the hotel's licence.

Business travellers have access to a business centre with office equipment. The hotel also offers laundry service and a check-in service station, which is convenient for guests with busy schedules and limited time between meetings. The hotel's location with the underground station right next to the entrance makes it practical to travel to and from external meetings in other parts of Stockholm during a conference day, without having to plan for longer travel times.

The hotel has a 24-hour reception, which means that guests with late arrivals or early departures can rely on a staffed front desk. Parking is available on site for a fee, and complimentary Wi-Fi covers the entire facility. Those who book a conference with overnight accommodation have access to all of the hotel's facilities, including the gym and restaurant, within the same facility at Kungsholmsgatan 31 in Stockholm. The combination of extensive conference offerings, central location and environmental certification makes the hotel a concrete option for meeting bookings in the Stockholm region.

Okej hotell för priset. Badrummet var helt ok. Lite trångt i hissen men funkade ändå.
