About the hotel

Brunkebergstorg 9 – a central location on Norrmalm

Downtown Camper by Scandic is located at Brunkebergstorg 9 on Norrmalm, in immediate proximity to Drottninggatan and Sergels torg. The square is a vibrant urban space with restaurants and cafés on the ground floors, and the hotel is a natural part of this urban environment rather than isolated from it. The Royal Opera House is just over 400 metres away and Stockholm Central Station is within walking distance. Klara Church is in the immediate vicinity and the Vasa Museum is just under 2.2 kilometres away.

For those arriving by public transport, the location is convenient: T-centralen is nearby and several bus lines pass in connection with the square. Parking is available for a fee. The hotel is Swan-certified, which means that the operation meets Nordic environmental requirements set by the Swan. The hotel has 494 rooms distributed across twelve room categories, offering a wide selection for different travel needs and group sizes. Pet-friendly rooms are available. Breakfast is not automatically included but depends on the booking type.

The hotel opened in 2017 and targets travellers who want to explore Stockholm actively. The interior design blends urban and natural elements, and the overall atmosphere is social and dynamic rather than tranquil. This means that the location and atmosphere can be an advantage for those seeking a lively city hotel, but a trade-off for those who prioritise privacy. Reception is staffed 24 hours a day and offers express check-out. Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out is by 12:00 at the latest.

494 rooms in twelve categories – from compact single rooms to Co-Living

The hotel has 494 rooms distributed across twelve categories with clear differences in size, daylight and maximum occupancy. In the smallest category, the area is 11–13 square metres for one guest. Classic Double and similar categories range from 16–24 square metres for up to two guests. Classic Double Sleep (18–22 sqm) has no window, which is worth noting when booking – the same applies to Spacious Double Sleep (23 sqm), which despite its size accommodates up to four guests. Spacious Double Bathtub (21–24 sqm) is one of the few rooms with a bathtub and sleeps up to two guests.

In the upper segment are Camper Suite at 48–51 square metres and Camper Master Suite at 44–48 square metres, both with a maximum of four guests. Camper Grand Suite is 64 square metres and sleeps up to six people. The most distinctive category is Camper Co-Living at 64–95 square metres with space for up to twelve guests – a category that with its bunk beds and shared spaces resembles an apartment more than a conventional hotel room. The differences between categories are therefore significant, both in terms of area and the number of guests the room is designed for.

Room amenities include free wi-fi, television with Chromecast, refrigerator, kettle and blackout curtains. Some rooms have window alcoves that function as seating areas. The hotel is non-smoking and pet-friendly rooms are available. Breakfast is not automatically included in the room rate but depends on the booking type and should be checked when booking.

Campfire restaurant and The Nest Cocktail Lounge on the roof

The hotel's food offering is divided across several distinct areas. The Campfire restaurant is located on the ground floor and serves breakfast weekdays 06:30–10:00 and weekends 07:00–12:00, lunch weekdays 11:30–14:00 and weekends 11:30–17:00, and dinner daily 17:00–23:00. The bar in Campfire is open Monday–Thursday 13:00–23:00 and Friday–Saturday 13:00–00:00. Scandic Shop is open 24 hours and offers snacks and basic items – this is a shop in a hotel environment, not a complimentary minibar. Room service is available as a paid service.

At the top of the building is The Nest Cocktail Lounge with views over Stockholm's rooftops. The bar is open Monday–Thursday 12:00–23:00, Friday–Saturday 12:00–00:00 and Sunday 16:00–23:00 and welcomes both hotel guests and the general public, with an age limit of 16 years. Adjacent to the bar is The Nest Wellness with a heated outdoor pool and sauna. The wellness section has separate opening hours: Monday–Thursday 12:15–20:00, Friday–Saturday 09:30–22:30 and Sunday 09:30–20:00. Access to the pool and sauna costs extra and is booked in time slots, but hotel guests receive a discounted entry compared to external visitors.

The gym on the same floor is complimentary for hotel guests and open daily 05:30–22:00. The coworking café is open Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00 and closed at weekends, making it an option for guests who need a workspace during weekdays. Overall, the hotel offers a wide range of food and beverage options as well as fitness and wellness facilities all under one roof, with clearly separate opening hours and pricing depending on the type of service and whether you are a hotel guest or external visitor.

Activity programme, bicycle hire and conference facilities

What most clearly distinguishes Downtown Camper from a conventional Scandic hotel is the combination of an ongoing activity programme and the opportunity to hire bicycles and skateboards directly through the hotel. The activities – which include running groups, yoga and inspiration workshops – are stated by the hotel to be complimentary for hotel guests. The hotel markets itself to what is called urban explorers, a profile that is evident in both the interior design and the offering.

The atmosphere in the common areas is social and lively, which can be an advantage for those seeking community but a trade-off for those wanting a tranquil stay. The hotel also offers dry cleaning and laundry service as well as a lifestyle concierge. For those wishing to work during their stay, there is a coworking café open Monday to Friday 08:00–17:00, whilst it is closed on Saturday and Sunday. The Nest Cocktail Lounge on the roof is open Monday to Thursday 12:00–23:00, Friday and Saturday 12:00–00:00 and Sunday 16:00–23:00. The Nest Wellness is open Monday to Thursday 12:15–20:00, Friday and Saturday 09:30–22:30 and Sunday 09:30–20:00.

For the business traveller and conference organiser, conference facilities are available at the hotel. The hotel is certified with the Swan label, which is confirmed by the Swan and Scandic's own pages. The hotel's direct contact is telephone +46 8 517 263 00 and email [email protected]. Overall, Downtown Camper is a hotel with a distinct character that suits those who want an active and central option in Stockholm – and who are prepared to pay separately for the wellness facility on the roof, whilst the gym is included at no extra cost for hotel guests.
