About the hotel
1880s building opposite Humlegården and the Royal Library
Elite Hotel Stockholm Plaza is located at Birger Jarlsgatan 29 in central Stockholm, directly opposite Humlegården park and the Royal Library. The building was constructed in the 1880s and the hotel is part of the Elite Hotels of Sweden chain. It is classified as a four-star hotel with 143 non-smoking rooms. The hotel carries the Elite Hotels environmental certification, as shown on the official hotel website. Breakfast and wifi are included in the price according to elite.se. Among the hotel's facilities are a sauna, lift, 24-hour reception, room service, business centre, and limousine and taxi services.
The location on Birger Jarlsgatan places guests on one of Stockholm's most visited streets. Stureplan is a short walk away, and Biblioteksgatan with its shops is within walking distance. Östermalmstorg underground station is accessible via Birger Jarlsgatan. The hotel has no private parking but public parking is available nearby for a fee. Humlegården park is across the street and provides a green space in an otherwise dense urban area.
The National Museum and Stockholm Palace are within just over a kilometre, making the hotel a natural base for cultural tourism. Arlanda Airport is reached by Arlandaexpressen from Central Station, and Bromma Airport is located west of the city. For conferences, the hotel offers three meeting rooms: Clubrummet, Clara and Damberg, whose capacities have been confirmed via elite.se conference page. In the hotel's premises, restaurant India's opened on 8 March 2024, led by chef Jonas Svensson, known from Miss Voon and GOMA. The restaurant is named after Bicky Chakraborty's granddaughter India.
India's – modern Indian restaurant in the hotel's premises
One of the hotel's most distinctive features is restaurant India's, which opened on 8 March 2024 in the former premises of Vassa Eggens at Birger Jarlsgatan 29, directly adjacent to the hotel. The restaurant is run by restaurateur Jonas Svensson, previously known for the concepts Miss Voon and GOMA Asian Gastropub, and was created as a tribute to Elite Hotels founder Bicky Chakraborty – named after his granddaughter India. Chakraborty, who was born in Calcutta and passed away in 2022, was a close friend of Jonas Svensson.
The menu is described as modern Indian cuisine with innovative influences, where classic Indian dishes are interpreted with Swedish ingredients. India's serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, which means hotel guests can eat all three meals on site. The restaurant also has a bar with modern cocktails with Indian influences. The concept behind India's is thus doubly rooted: partly in Jonas Svensson's previous experience of Asian and international cuisine, and partly in a personal tribute to Bicky Chakraborty, the man who founded Elite Hotels and whose vision shaped the chain. The fact that the restaurant was named after his granddaughter India underscores the family and personal dimension of the project.
The hotel also offers room service, which means food can be ordered directly to the room. Room service is a separately paid service and should not be confused with the breakfast which, according to Elite Hotels' own information, is included in the booking price. Conference guests can arrange lunches in cooperation with India's, making the restaurant a natural part of the hotel's combined offering for both leisure and business travellers.
Rooms with modern furnishings and comfort facilities
The hotel has 143 rooms divided into several categories, including Standard Single, Standard Double and Deluxe Double. All rooms are non-smoking. The rooms have colourful modern furnishings, cable TV and bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. Minibar and ironing facilities are available in the rooms. Some rooms have a bathtub, others a shower. Breakfast and wifi are included in the booking price according to Elite Hotels' own information, which means guests do not need to add these as separate supplements when booking.
Wifi is included in all rooms and a shared internet computer is available in the lobby. The hotel has a lift and 24-hour reception with express check-in and check-out options, which facilitates guests with early or late arrivals. The hotel accepts pets and has facilities for guests with disabilities. Luggage storage, laundry and dry cleaning services and room service are available to guests during their stay. The hotel is environmentally certified with Green Key, an internationally recognised certification for sustainable travel and responsible hotel operations.
The hotel has a sauna that guests can book, offering an opportunity to relax after a day in Stockholm. For business travellers, a business centre is available as well as limousine and taxi services that can be arranged via the hotel. The conference facility comprises three meeting rooms named Clubrummet, Clara and Damberg, which have been confirmed via Elite Hotels' official conference page. These premises make the hotel suitable not only for leisure travellers but also for guests with professional needs during their Stockholm visit.
Three conference rooms and central public transport location for business travellers
Elite Hotel Stockholm Plaza has three conference rooms – Clubrummet, Clara and Damberg – with a combined maximum capacity of 50 participants, making the facility suitable for smaller meetings, seminars and corporate events. The rooms are located on the ground floor and are described on Elite Hotels' official conference page as bright and well-equipped with elegant furnishings. Damberg is the largest room at 62 square metres and can accommodate up to 50 participants in theatre-style seating. Clara is 35 square metres and holds up to 20 participants, whilst Clubrummet at 22 square metres is suitable for smaller board meetings of up to 10 people.
The combination of meeting facilities and restaurant India's under the same roof is a practical advantage that reduces the need for external catering. A business centre is available in the hotel, as is 24-hour reception and room service. For business travellers, the underground location is a clear advantage: Östermalmstorg is directly accessible via Birger Jarlsgatan and provides quick connections to Stockholm Central Station and onwards to Arlanda. The hotel also offers limousine and taxi services for transfers, which facilitates travel to and from the airport or other destinations in Stockholm.
The central address on Birger Jarlsgatan, with Stureplan, Östermalm Market Hall and a wide range of restaurants and shops within walking distance, makes the hotel a functional base for those who want to move around the city centre. The hotel is environmentally certified with Green Key certification and is part of the Elite Hotels chain with hotels in Stockholm and the rest of Sweden. Breakfast and wifi are included in the price, which is a further advantage for business travellers seeking a comprehensive accommodation option in central Stockholm.
