About the hotel

Non-profit operations in the Grand Deaconess House from 1896 on Erstaklippan

Ersta Conference, Hotel & Terrace is operated as part of the non-profit organisation Ersta Deaconry, whose activities are based on Christian principles. Profits from the hotel, conference and restaurant operations are reinvested in Ersta Deaconry's social work and care. This is a concrete difference from commercial hotel chains and may be relevant for guests who value this type of ownership structure. The facility has existed since 1992.

Several of the hotel rooms and most of the conference facilities are located in the Grand Deaconess House, which was built in 1896. Here, superintendents, deaconesses and probationary sisters lived and worked until the 1970s, when the building transitioned to other uses, including guest accommodation and today's course and conference facility. The hotel has 38 rooms with a total of 72 beds. The room categories are named after deaconry history – Sister rooms from 8 m², Superintendent rooms from 15 m², Student rooms from 19 m² and Director rooms from 36 m² – which reflects the building's original function. Breakfast is included in the price.

The facility at Erstagatan 1 is connected by a courtyard. The hotel and conference reception is located directly to the right at Erstagatan 1K, whilst the entrance to the restaurant and event floor Ersta Terrace is to the left at Erstagatan 1N. The terrace can also be reached via stairs from Fjällgatan 45. The conference department comprises 16 rooms with space for a total of 514 people, with the largest hall accommodating up to 180 participants. The event floor accommodates up to 210 seated guests, and the terrace area can hold up to 250 mingling guests.

Four room categories with different sizes, bathroom types and views

The hotel has 38 rooms with a total of 72 beds, of which 68 are in standard beds. The rooms are divided into four categories with concrete differences in size, bathroom type and view.

The Sister rooms are the smallest, from 8 square metres, with shared shower and toilet in the corridor and views over Djurgården and Stockholm's inlet. The Superintendent rooms are from 15 square metres with private shower and toilet and the same view towards Djurgården and the inlet. Both these categories are located in the Grand Deaconess House from 1896. The Student rooms are from 19 square metres with private shower and toilet, but the windows face the courtyard and Erstagatan rather than the water. The Director rooms are the most spacious, from 36 square metres, with double bed or single beds, private shower and toilet and views either over the rooftops of Södermalm or towards the church park and Stockholm's inlet. The Director rooms are described by the hotel as new and modern with Scandinavian-inspired furnishings.

Director rooms are also available as three-bed and four-bed rooms. The four-bed room consists of two double rooms with two separate showers and toilets, whilst the three-bed room has three beds distributed across two rooms. Breakfast is included in the room price and is served on weekdays and weekends from 07.00–10.00. Reception is open on weekdays 08.00–19.00 and weekends 08.00–15.00. Check-in on weekdays is from 14.00–19.00 and on weekends 14.00–16.00. Arrival outside these times requires prior arrangement. Parking is available by advance booking and fee, with outdoor parking from 200 kronor and garage parking from 225 kronor per day.

Fjällgatan around the corner and public transport via Ersta Hospital stop

The hotel's location on Erstaklippan on eastern Södermalm means that Fjällgatan – one of Stockholm's most famous viewpoint streets with panoramic views over Saltsjön and Djurgården – is just around the corner and can be reached on foot without a detour. This is a practical advantage for guests who want to enjoy the view without booking one of the more expensive rooms with sea views. The address is Erstagatan 1K, and the facility has been operated under the official name Ersta Conference, Hotel & Terrace since the business was founded in 1992.

The nearest bus stop is Ersta Hospital. From the facility, it is according to the hotel's own information approximately 15 minutes' walk to Slussen, which provides access to the underground and commuter train. The hotel has parking spaces in the courtyard and in a garage which must be booked in advance; outdoor parking costs from 200 kronor per day and garage from 225 kronor per day. Reception is staffed on weekdays 08–19 and weekends 08–15, which means the hotel does not offer 24-hour staffing.

The facility is located in an area with good opportunities to explore Södermalm on foot. Ersta Deaconry also operates a museum and a second-hand shop within the same complex, which provides further reason to explore the area. Within the complex there is also Restaurant Terrace, which serves lunch on weekdays 11–14, as well as an event floor with space for 210 seated guests and a terrace for up to 250 mingling guests. Contact with the hotel is via telephone 08-714 63 41 or email [email protected].

Sixteen conference rooms and Ersta Terrace as restaurant and event floor

The conference department comprises 16 conference rooms with space for a total of 514 people. Most of the facilities are located in the Grand Deaconess House from 1896. The rooms vary in size and character, from smaller meeting rooms to the Sister Salon which accommodates up to 50 people. The largest individual conference room accommodates up to 180 people. The halls are actively used during weekdays, which means the facility can be more lively during daytime on weekdays compared to a purely hotel environment. The conference department can be booked separately or as a combined arrangement together with the hotel and event floor, and booking enquiries are made via telephone, email or form on erstadiakoni.se.

Ersta Terrace is the restaurant and event floor, located at Erstagatan 1N with a separate entrance from the courtyard or via stairs from Fjällgatan 45. The restaurant serves lunch of the day on weekdays from 11.00–14.00. The indoor event floor has seating for 210 people, and the large outdoor terrace with afternoon sun can hold up to 250 mingling guests. The event floor is used for weddings, conference closings and other events. The restaurant highlights well-prepared food with high-quality ingredients as part of its profile.

Ersta Terrace is operated in the old deaconess house, which was completed in 1864 and housed the deaconesses until 1896 when they moved into the new Grand Deaconess House. Ersta Conference, Hotel and Terrace was founded in 1992 and has since brought together hotel, conference and restaurant within the same facility on Erstaklippan. The hotel, conference, restaurant and event floor can be booked separately or as a combined arrangement, and the hotel confirms the booking after receipt of the enquiry.
