About the hotel
A 17th-century building on Prästgatan in the heart of the Old Town
Executive Living Old Town Unique is an apartment hotel housed in a 17th-century building at Prästgatan 38 in the Old Town. The property is operated by Executive Living, a company that lets furnished apartments in Stockholm, and is not marketed under any chain brand. The facility does not consist of a conventional hotel with reception, lobby or common areas, but rather three separate apartments that are let individually. Check-in takes place without a staffed reception, and guests are asked to notify their estimated arrival time in advance. There is no lift in the building, which is a direct consequence of the property's age and protected status.
The location on Prästgatan places guests in one of the Old Town's best-preserved quarters. The Nobel Museum and Stortorget are approximately two minutes' walk away, and the Royal Palace is about 400 metres from the property. Gamla stan underground station can be reached on foot in approximately five minutes. Drottninggatan, with its range of shops and restaurants, is within the same walking distance. The street space on Prästgatan is narrow and lined with tall facades, typical of the medieval urban planning in the Old Town.
Since the facility lacks a restaurant, bar, breakfast room and room service, it is not suited for guests seeking a full-service hotel. There is no possibility of ordering food or drink from staff. The apartment format instead means that guests are self-catering during their stay. The business is verified as active with bookings available, and staff communicate in Swedish and English.
Three apartments with clear differences in size, floor level and facilities
The facility consists of three apartments that differ in size, layout, floor level and which equipment is included. It is important to distinguish between these when booking, as they offer substantially different conditions.
The smallest unit is a one-room option of 52 square metres located on the ground floor. It accommodates up to four guests and has a double bed and a futon. The apartment has parquet flooring, an open fireplace, seating area and a tiled bathroom with shower. It does not have access to the roof terrace and is the only unit on ground level, which means street noise can be noticeable, particularly with open windows at night. A second one-room unit of 55 square metres has a separate bedroom, private entrance, open fireplace and a bathroom with shower and hairdryer. The kitchen is equipped with a cooker, refrigerator, dishwasher and kitchen utensils.
The third and largest unit is called Superior Apartment with Terrace and measures 134 square metres spread over three internal floors with two open staircases within the apartment. It is located on the fourth floor of the building and is accessed only by stairs without a lift. The apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one of which features a spa bath, a private sauna and a roof terrace with views over the Old Town's rooftops and church spires. The ceiling height varies between 160 and 300 centimetres depending on where in the apartment you are, which is a direct consequence of the original roof design. This unit accommodates up to seven guests. Only the Superior apartment has access to the roof terrace.
Self-catering in a historic setting: kitchens, laundry and available facilities
All three apartments are equipped for self-catering. The kitchens contain a cooker, refrigerator and coffee maker, and in the larger units there is also a dishwasher and a wider range of kitchen utensils and crockery. Each apartment has a washing machine, which is practical for longer stays. Bed linen and towels are included. There is no possibility of ordering food from the hotel, and no breakfast is served. Guests who wish to eat out have a wide range of restaurants and cafés in the Old Town within walking distance.
All apartments have free WiFi that works throughout the unit. Each apartment has an open fireplace, a seating area and a flat-screen TV with DVD player. The entrance to each apartment is private, which means guests do not share staircases or corridors with each other in the same way as in a traditional hotel. Check-in is by key and without a staffed desk, which requires that the arrival time is communicated in advance.
There are no common areas such as lounge, gym or conference room. There are no parking spaces associated with the property. Since the building is a protected cultural heritage object in the Old Town, opportunities for physical alterations are limited, which among other things explains the absence of a lift. Guests with mobility restrictions should note that the ground floor apartment is the only unit without steps to the entrance, whilst the Superior apartment requires four flights of stairs up the building and additional internal stairs within the apartment.
Street noise on Prästgatan and the movement patterns of the surroundings
Prästgatan is one of the Old Town's best-preserved and most frequented streets, and it affects your stay in a concrete way. The street is narrow and lined with tall facades, which amplifies sound from passing tourists, restaurant guests and nightlife in the quarter. The ground floor apartment is in direct connection with the street space, and street noise can be noticeable with open windows during evenings and nights. The Superior apartment on the fourth floor and the roof terrace offer a different perspective with views over the rooftops, but as mentioned requires that you can manage four flights of stairs without a lift.
The Old Town is car-free for through traffic in large parts, but deliveries and service vehicles occur during morning hours. Gamla stan underground station on the red and green lines is within five minutes' walk and provides quick connections to Stockholm Central Station and other parts of the city. Drottninggatan, one of Stockholm's busiest shopping streets, is also reached within five minutes' walk from the facility.
For guests planning to explore Stockholm with the Old Town as a base, the location is functional: the Royal Palace is about 400 metres away, whilst the Nobel Museum and Stortorget can both be reached in approximately two minutes' walk. The facility is best suited for guests who prioritise a central location in historic buildings from the 17th century and are comfortable with independent accommodation without hotel services. It is less suitable for guests who need a lift, prefer a staffed reception or seek accommodation with a restaurant and breakfast service on site.
