About the hotel

From Pop House to Backstage: name change and new direction on Djurgårdsvägen 68

The hotel on Djurgårdsvägen 68 was previously operated under the name Pop House Hotel, a name with a direct connection to ABBA The Museum in the same building. In September 2022, a comprehensive rebranding took place and the business opened as Backstage Hotel Stockholm. The rebrand involved not only a new name but also a broadened profile: the hotel now positions itself as a boutique hotel with music, art and design as common threads, rather than leaning solely on the ABBA legacy.

The direct connection to ABBA The Museum remains in the form of a shared building and a preserved ABBA Gold junior suite. Other rooms have been given a music and stage art-inspired design. The hotel is housed in a carefully restored building from 1880 on the Royal Djurgården. Since September 2025, the hotel is also part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Lifestyle Collection, a network for independent boutique hotels.

Backstage Hotel is operated as part of Cirkus Venues, which also operates Hasselbacken and Cirkus on the Royal Djurgården. Since 2022, the business has grown to include more dining formats and a broader event offering than during the Pop House era. Guests seeking information under the old name should be aware that it is Backstage Hotel Stockholm that is meant, and that information from the period before 2022 may be outdated regarding rooms, restaurant and facilities. The hotel's current profile is clearly anchored in a broader cultural context on Djurgården.

57 individually designed rooms, lofts and suites

Backstage Hotel has 57 individually designed rooms divided into categories such as double rooms, superior rooms, loft rooms, luxury rooms and suites. The rooms are designed with details inspired by music, theatre and life behind the scenes, and each unit has a distinct character. Several rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, and the loft rooms are distinguished by exposed ceiling beams and skylights that give an industrial yet carefully considered expression.

Among the suites is the ABBA Gold junior suite, designed in collaboration with ABBA The Museum and equipped with a bathtub and balcony. Veranda Suite is the hotel's largest suite with two separate bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private veranda. Roof Suite is another option in the upper segment. All rooms are equipped with a minibar, desk and wi-fi. Bathroom products are from the Swedish brand L:A Bruket.

The hotel has a lift and rooms adapted for guests with disabilities. Parking is available on site for a fee. Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out by 11:00. The hotel accepts pets. A gym is available to hotel guests at no extra cost. Meeting and event spaces are available on site, making the hotel relevant also for smaller events that combine conferences with cultural experiences in the Djurgården environment. The varied room categories mean that the hotel can accommodate everything from individual travellers to groups with a need for more space and separate bedrooms.

Backstage Zone: brasserie, bar and café in the same quarter as Cirkus Arena

In spring 2025, Backstage Zone was launched, a combined entertainment quarter at Djurgårdsvägen 68 that combines the hotel with Backstage Bar, Backstage Brasserie and Backstage Café under one roof. This means that the hotel now offers several food and drink options on site compared to before. The brasserie serves a menu with flavours from around the world, the bar offers cocktails and music, and the café focuses on coffee and lighter meals. Backstage Brasserie is open to visitors who are not staying at the hotel, making the quarter a meeting place for a broader audience on Djurgården.

The hotel is located directly opposite Cirkus Arena, a concert and event venue with an active programme of musical performances and shows. Proximity to Gröna Lund, whose concert stage is active during the summer season, strengthens the hotel's position as a base for music-interested visitors. The combination of Backstage Zone and these arenas in immediate proximity gives the hotel a coherent profile from accommodation to evening entertainment, where guests can walk between hotel and concert venue.

Breakfast is served at the hotel, but whether it is included in the room price or charged separately depends on the booking type and channel. Room service is available, and any charges beyond food costs should be checked at booking. The hotel also offers meeting and event spaces, making it relevant for events that combine conferences with cultural experiences. Backstage Zone as a whole strengthens the hotel's position as an evening destination on Djurgården, not just an accommodation option.

Djurgården's museum island and tram stop directly outside the entrance

Backstage Hotel is located on Djurgården, an island in central Stockholm with a dense cluster of museums and outdoor attractions. ABBA The Museum shares a building with the hotel and is accessed via a shared entrance. Vasa Museum and Skansen are within walking distance, and Gröna Lund amusement park is in immediate proximity to the property. For visitors with varying interests, this means that several different types of experiences can be combined during the same visit without transport needing to be planned between attractions.

The tram stop for line 7 is located directly outside the hotel and connects Djurgården with other parts of the city. It is the primary public transport connection and means that guests without a car have good accessibility to Stockholm city centre. The journey time to central Stockholm is stated to be approximately ten minutes by tram, car or taxi, which makes the location practical despite Djurgården's character differing from the more central districts.

Djurgården's character as a park island and royal land holding area means that the hotel's immediate surroundings are dominated by parkland and promenades rather than city streets. This distinguishes Backstage from hotels in Östermalm or Norrmalm, where the urban pulse is more immediate. Guests who prioritise a wide range of restaurants and shops outside the hotel should expect to take the tram into the centre. The hotel is therefore particularly well suited for visitors whose programme revolves around Djurgården's own attractions, concerts at Cirkus or Gröna Lund, or who are seeking a quieter location with quick access to the city centre.
