A great film on the big screen, dinner round the corner and a hotel to long to return to. From 11–22 November, Stockholm Film Festival will be back. Here is our guide to a November weekend where film experiences take centre stage – with three hand-picked hotels in the city centre.

Your film weekend in brief

  • Festival: 11–22 November 2026.
  • Two weekends to choose from: 13–15 or 20–22 November.
  • A good starting point: the festival centre at Bio Skandia, Drottninggatan 82.
  • Our hotel tips: choose accommodation based on your screenings and schedule time for dinner between films.

A timely reason to book a November weekend

This year’s festival is the 37th edition. The organiser highlights film screenings and Face2Face conversations with filmmakers – an opportunity to gain further perspectives on what you have just seen. The dates are confirmed by both Visit Stockholm and the festival organiser.

For those who want to make a whole trip of the cinema visit, this is a fine opportunity: choose a few films that really appeal to you and let the rest of the weekend include café visits, walks and long conversations over dinner. You don’t need to fill every gap with a new screening to have a rich festival experience.

Start at Skandia – and plan according to your ticket

The festival centre is at Bio Skandia from 21 October–22 November, with announced opening hours from 10–19. This is also where you’ll find this year’s programme guide, according to the organiser’s information. The cinema’s address is Drottninggatan 82, a practical starting point when you get your bearings in the city centre.

Go to the festival’s official website for current programme and ticket terms. Check the cinema for each individual screening before you book dinner or decide on a hotel. Two films in a row may be shown at different venues; allow time for travel, entry and a possible conversation after the film.

Three hand-picked hotels for the film weekend

We have chosen three hotels on Norrmalm with different strengths: atmosphere, convenient arrival and design. All have central addresses that make them interesting for a weekend with Skandia as your starting point. The selection is based on location and character, not on any particular festival package.

Haymarket by Scandic – for a weekend with extra sparkle

Bright restaurant setting with green plants at Haymarket by Scandic

Address: Hötorget 13–15.

Haymarket is located in the former PUB building at Hötorget and has an environment inspired by the 1920s. This makes the hotel our choice for you if you like to let the atmosphere of the film evening continue over dinner or something nice in the bar.

The location at Hötorget provides a clear base in the city centre, close to the areas around Drottninggatan. Choose this if the atmosphere of the hotel is an important part of your trip and you want to spend part of the evening at the accommodation itself.

Scandic Grand Central – for those arriving by train

Address: Kungsgatan 70.

Scandic Grand Central is located at the junction of Kungsgatan and Vasagatan. The proximity to Central Station makes it our practical choice for a short weekend where you want to spend more time in Stockholm and less on arrival logistics.

Vasateatern is in the building and gives the hotel its own theatre connection. From here you can venture out into the city centre quarters when planning cinema visits and dinner. If you arrive before check-in, ask the hotel about luggage storage so that the first afternoon becomes easier to use.

Miss Clara by Nobis – for those who appreciate design

Reception and bright interior at Miss Clara by Nobis

Address: Sveavägen 48.

Miss Clara is located in a former girls’ school from 1910, with hotel interior by Gert Wingårdh. This is our choice for you if you like to combine the stories on the big screen with architecture and careful design during your stay.

The address on Sveavägen suits a weekend with the city centre as your base. Let a quiet moment at the hotel be the break between the afternoon film and the evening’s dinner. For those who choose accommodation as much for the environment as for the location, Miss Clara gives a clear character to your trip.

How to have a weekend with both film and breaks

  1. Friday: arrive in the city. Plan a first screening with good time to spare from the train or flight arrival. Schedule dinner before or after the film based on the end time, not the other way round.
  2. Saturday: choose two highlights. An afternoon film and an evening screening can go a long way. Give yourself a proper break in between for food and a walk.
  3. Sunday: finish at a leisurely pace. Have breakfast in peace and choose a final film only if your journey home allows. Check the check-out time and the possibility of leaving your bags at the hotel.

Three things to check before you book

  • Film first, hotel second. Check that the screenings you most want to see fit your travel dates. Read the ticket terms and whether any membership or special pass is required.
  • Compare the entire hotel stay. See if breakfast is included, what room type you are booking and what cancellation terms apply. Prices and availability depend on dates and room choice.
  • Make room for the evening. Check the restaurant’s opening hours and allow time for late screenings in your planning. A reasonably relaxed schedule makes it easier to enjoy both film and city.

Our recommendation is simple: choose a hotel that suits your way of travelling and let a couple of really appealing films be the weekend’s focal points. Then there is also time for what often makes a Stockholm weekend memorable – the conversations afterwards, a good dinner and the feeling of having discovered something new.
